Last week was my first real week of structured training and it was such a joy to have a plan, run with a high heart beat and also realise that even with sometime of doing nothing there still is a fitness and refreshed mind with a strong focus for the next few weeks.
I finished the week with a race effort at the Scafell Sky race which is the sister race of the Lake Sky Ultra and a part of the UK skyrunning series It was a 36 km, 290 0m+ race through the Lake district finishing in Ambleside. I arrived to the Lakes a few days prior and used this time to seek as much climbing as I could and do some easy, longer hours—this is my favourite training and I found so much pleasure exploring these new trails. I was amazed at the records that are in the area set before I was born and still untouched. The Lakes are home to some serious talent.
The race was beautifully brutal. I can’t think of a better way to explain this course. It stands as the most technical race I have run, pushing my ability to run and rock hop across some magical ridges and peaks. I was left outside my comfort zone and embraced this challenge; grateful that the sun had arrived for the race and it wasn’t as slippery as the previous day and easier to see the course markings. I finished 4th overall, 1st female in a time of 5:34: XX which I was happy http://premier-pharmacy.com/product-category/alcoholism/ with but more happy that I didn’t fall off a mountain or break a leg (not that that would have stopped Kilian).
The week’s total of 114 km, 6000 m and 12.5 hours is a good start and it was brilliant to spend these days in the Lake District and with new friends learning and exploring—the best way to run in my opinion.
Today I return down South with my Mum and get back into the gym to recover but still building strength; with no mountains around it’s not so enticing to run long and there is no elevation so I will focus on gym strength, speed and stretch. As much I’ll miss being back in the mountains I realise I love the contrast and the challenge and the forever deep appreciation when I do return.
